  • Brief Introduction

    Dr. Yushu Liang is an Assistant Professor and Master's Supervisor at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Nanjing University. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree and a Master of Architecture degree from Chongqing University, as well as a Ph.D. in Architecture from Tsinghua University. She previously worked as an architect at the China Radio, Film and Television Design and Research Institute. She has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Sydney (Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning) and the University of Cambridge (Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit, Department of Social Anthropology).

    She concurrently serves as the director of the Rural Revitalization Workstation at Nanjing University. She holds positions as a member of the Vernacular Architecture Committee of the Architectural Society of China, a council member of the Vernacular Architecture Branch of the Architectural Society of China, a council member of the Western New Regional Architecture Committee of the Architectural Society of China, and a council member of the Rural Group of the Indoor Environment and Health Branch of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences.

    Her research focuses on regionalism in architecture and cities, as well as vernacular architecture, with a particular emphasis on the ecological adaptability and sustainable design of semi-nomadic settlements in China's northern border regions. She has led projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Program and has co-authored books, translated works, and published over 20 papers in core journals, including the Architectural Journal.

    Her awards include the "Rising Star Award" at the 9th Shenzhen Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture(UABB), the "Dual-innovation Ph.D." award in Jiangsu Province, and the "Outstanding Graduate Student Moral Education Supervisor" award at Nanjing University. Under her supervision, academic master's theses and undergraduate graduation designs have received university-level "Outstanding Academic Master's Thesis" and "Outstanding Graduation Design" awards. Her practical projects have been shortlisted for the 2025 Third "Sanlian Humanities City Award" (Eco-friendly Award), won the first prize in the 2024 Jiangsu Civil Engineering and Architectural Society Architectural Creation Award, and received the third prize in the 2022 Active House Award China Architecture Competition.
